What is Intravenous (IV) Conscious Sedation?
IV Conscious Sedation is a form of anxiety control to make Dental Treatments more comfortable and less daunting for you. It’s the latest alternative to general anaesthesia for most dental procedures. Sedation is administered by injection, in the back of your hand or in your arm. The dose given depends on the Treatment you need and your own response to the Sedation medication.
How does IV Sedation work?
For Patients who are generally fit and well, this is the technique most commonly used. It’s delivered via a thin plastic tube in the back of the hand or arm. A sedative medication is given through the tube and the amount administered is dependent on individual patient’s response.
Why choose IV sedation?
It’s consistently effective and a simple solution to making Dental Visits comfortable experiences – you’re simply given an injection in the arm or back of your hand. It’s safe and suitable for nearly all patients. Whilst you will be drowsy, you will still be conscious and able to co-operate with the Dentist. You will not feel any pain during treatment.
How will I Feel?
IV sedation will induce a sleepy state of deep relaxation. You’ll also experience a feeling of not being distressed by what’s going on and some patients recall very little about their treatment afterwards.
Is it Safe?
Yes it is completely safe. At 53 Wimple Street, you will be looked after by a dedicated, highly qualified and experienced Dental Team.
